Yes, but you two are both forgetting about Jane and her brother. They were olive skinned...which is not black, persay, but it is not pale white either.

So perhaps they can be black, if they were bitten as an African American. Besides, there was never a really heavy Laurent focus, and I don't particulary remember any one part stating or rejecting his skin color being deathly white. Perhaps I was missing something over the excitment of what was going on, whilst wondering if Bella would survive or not, but I honestly don't remember.

Besides, nowhere in the book says that all vampires must be deathly pale.

fatal, you're right. I always wondered about that, but I figured they could be black if they were dark-skinned enough before they were transformed. And I forgot that Jane was olive-skinned - that's a good point too. I think it would be considered a bit racist if vampires could only be really really pale.

And I never really thought much about what Laurent looked like. I only imagined him with black hair. I don't really have a problem with the guy playing him.

hmmmm......that is something to think about. I never thought about that before. Well if I guess if the person was racist before that became a vampire then the most likely are. Sad but true. Racist roots run very deep.

Same here, Sam. I only imagined him with black hair, so I saw the actor, gave him a thought and then shrugged it off, cause it's not like with Edward; she doesn't give a head to toe description of Laurent.

Besides, I think when vampires are transformed they gain the same complexion that they would have if they were dead. So, they would simply lose all color (meaning blushing, rosy red cheeks sort of color) but not the actual skin tone.

Yeah, my bestie sort of shoved it down my throat, and in no time, I was addicted. So addicted I got my mom to read it. We're planning on seeing it together in the theater, which is a big thing since it's usually my dad and I going to see stuff in the theater. So it'll be good. ^-^

same with my friend. she was the first one to read it and then she made all the rest of us read it. no complaints though! lol
