sara, that was amazing! and your face was
sooo red afterwards
. but then i shouldn't be talking, seeing as how i'm the girl who tends to fall over standing still. (for the record, it hurts more standing still than it does going fast!)
and you are good. you're a heck of a lot better than me! joanie wants me to take my test sometime in may. ('cause i have NO time this month! *tears out hair in frustration*)
and sam, i will now answer you uber long post:
exactly. i'm not a fan of jumps, so i'd rather have the bragging rights. i hate salchows 'cause i can never get my free leg in the right position. i've been too afraid to try my loop (or anything else) in my new skates, so i need to just get on with it. i agree, i just need to do it. that's easier said than done, though
. they're almost completely broken in now
! i could do almost all the turns we had to do in synchro the other day, which was amazing. i could even almost do Choctaw(sp?), which i've never been able to do before. the heat molding did help. i'm not sure how much longer i'll be skating (hopefully a while, though!), so it's not such a big concern about weakening the boots. i'd rather they fit me
now than worry about years from now.
i agree. cheat jumps are for when you're learning, but if you cheat the single, then how on earth are you supposed to get the double? this is one of the reasons i'm still stuck where i am: i cheat them all and i'm not going on until i actually get them properly. i agree completely with that. little kids with huge egos suck, and they should just go away and clutter up someone else's rink
. oh, nice! my main issue is that i land on two feet with my feet crossed. *sigh* stupid free leg... at least you have your axel now! okay, i see what they are. we call them waltz three-turns here. why canadian, by the way? and yeah, they are good for centering your weight, something i still need help with sometimes (a lot of the time
). yes, i know all of those. i think the basic terms are probably pretty similar. and you forgot counters
. don't worry, it's fun to compare terms! exactly. grace and showmanship is more important than jumps, in the end. okay, so you have more levels than we do. let's see, if they match up, then aussie skate would be pre-pre, then prelim is the same, the you have elementary, which i don't think has an equivalent here, then primary would be what we call juv. or maybe they just don't compare at all. *shrug*. lovely. we don't have age limits on the testing levels, just the competition ones. like, we can't be a juv team because you need to have passed your... prelim moves-in-the-field, i believe, and be under 12. we're trying for intermediate, but since everyone needs to have passed their pre-juv for that by december 1st, i don't think we're going to make it. *shrug* i can't afford to miss school to compete anyway. nice! i'm doing loop, flip, lutz, back spin (i have it sometimes and not other times *sigh*) change-foot spin, very occasionally sit spin and beginner's layback. i have a friend who LOVES stag jumps. she's really good at them, too. we got to do back three-turns, brackets, rockers, counters, and choctaws last saturday, in all directions on all feet. seeing as how i've never learned either a back rocker or a back counter, i think i did pretty well. our coach said that the new skates really helped my brackets, which was nice to hear. AND, i did better than this one girl who thinks she's all that because she's almost got her axel. i hate her with a burning passion. (sara-chan, if you're actually reading this, it's little sarah, not bailey).
laces are evil. why can't they have velcro, or snaps, or zippers, or ANYTHING but the stupid laces that kill your fingers? i bet they are expensive! i felt smug, 'cause i got really good skates for cheap and this other girl i know got $500 ones, and they're the same quality. oh, fun. i haven't even tried jumping or spinning yet. i'm WAY too chicken for that!
apparently so. they should stop to think a second, though. i mean, the people at the olympics are in their twenties, not 15! here too, though. no one knows anything but the triple axel. it would be better if they just said, "can you do jumps?" 'cause then at least you'd be able to say yes
. lol, i always find it funny when people (including myself) do that. i'm far more likely to fall going round in circles than actually trying anything complicated. i've never been on our harness, unfortunately. i wish i had! maybe if i had that bit of extra support i wouldn't be so scared to try anything. exactly. i hate going on sessions with people who are better than me, especially if they're shorter. it's both frightening and embarrassing.
i can't even get that far. i really need to stretch them. i don't do off-ice, but i walk a mile home from school everyday, much of it uphill, while carrying a full backpack, so i have muscles. honestly, i don't even remember what i said that you responded to about choreographers and i'm too lazy to check, so i will skip that and move on to the next part
. i totally agree about ice princess, and i've seen some VERY stupid movies in my time. (not voluntarily, though
). the whole point of skating is that, thought it may LOOK easy, it isn't at all. and the formula is just dumb. first off, it would be different for every person depending on weight, physical fitness level, hairstyle, and a bunch of other things that she didn't even think about. she is a stuck-up know it all, you're right. and the harvard thing was SO stupid! who does that, anyway? you can go pro and go to harvard, and she's talking about her FUTURE here, not just some skating thing. (which, much as i love it, is not the best career choice in the world.) but no, it's all about following your passions and doing what
you want. *snorts* i'll take my mom pushing me through harvard any day. and yeah, that's completely unreal. heck, i could barely STROKE when i first stepped on in mine! was she really landing triples?! missed that part, and that's even worse. i've NEVER seen anyone with feet like that after skating. blisters, yes. some bleeding, yes. dead feet like those? no. sounds amazing. good point, i'd forgotten the whole staring at her mom thing. not even judge favoritism is that horrible. lol, sounds hilarious. we saw it in theaters, and it was amazingly fun. 40 C?! ouch! i'm so sorry! i'm not sure our lowest, but it's pretty low. and even when it's hot, you know it'll get colder at night, which is a relief. the rink in ft. collins, where we went to compete was SO warm! i dunno if theirs was abnormally hot or ours abnormally cold, but we were all baking. we have backless dresses, and we weren't even shivering like we normally do! yeah, some people have no tolerance for temperature at all.
twelve year olds on steroids? frightening thought!
. the hockey kids are like that. oh, nice! that's awesome. we have some good skaters here, and scott hamilton trained at our rink back in the day
. we also have the skaters who can't do anything, and the ones who can do nothing and THINK they're all that. *grrr* yeah, it is kinda scary. somehow, i don't think even you are that small. this chick is minuscule!
i know! and yeah, but what doesn't? if it didn't, then real life would be like ice princess, and then where would be be?
. very true. coaches are the reason we're where we are.
i'm not a perfectionist with anything but my writing. there, though... *shakes head*
lol, fun for you! glad you have someone to talk to. i'm sure she'll forgive you for badmouthing synchro, though. after all, a lot of the synchro girls ARE NETSPEAK SUCKS!tches. trust me, i skate with them. not to mention the evil older team which things it owns the locker rooms and the ice and... grr! we do NOT get along with them at ALL!
