| i saw the movie sweeny todd. sam, les mis is about a failed french revolution. well, actually, it's a little more complicated. (Note to my readers: this is anne going on about a musical she loves. this may take a while ) so, in the beginning, the main character Jean Valjean (yes, that's actually his name ) steals a loaf of bread because his sister's children are starving and gets sent to jail for 10 years. (5 years for what he did, the rest because he tried to escape 3 times). he's finally set free on parole, and then proceeds to steal the silverware and candlesticks of the bishop who takes him in for the night. on the run again, he changes his identity and becomes M. le Maire of a small town. there, he meets Fantine, a factory worker who's dying. she tells him that she has a daughter, Cosette, who she left with an inkeeper and his wife because she couldn't afford to keep her. she dies soon after, and he vows to find and rescue Cosette. Enter Javert, the police chief, who's been chasing after Jean Valjean for years. Jean reveals himself to be the one Javert is after, and they fight. Jean wins and runs again, this time to rescue Cosette. he finds her and buys her from the inkeeper and his wife, who are greedy crooks. skip many years to when she's a young woman and enter Marius, a young college student. cosette and jean are now living in paris, where marius and his friends are planning a revolution against the government. cosetts sees marius and they fall in love. he goes to see her with the help of eponine, the daughter of the inkeeper, who happens to be in love with marius. (eponine is, not the inkeeper ) cosette and marius fall more deeply in love, but they're interupted by the former inkeeper and his band of thieves. eponine screams to get them away, and jean comes out to see what's wrong. he thinks that javert and the law have found him at last, and he makes plans to go with cosette to england. skip to the night of the planned revolution. jean, having realized that cosette is in love, goes to the rebels and joins them. javert joins the rebels as a spy, and is quickly discovered. they tie him up, then give him to jean to kill. jean sets him free instead, and goes back to fighting. he saves marius' life, and they are the only two rebels not to die . he carries marius through the sewers, where he meets javert. jean gets javert to let him deliver marius to his family, swearing to come back and face justice. javert finally lets him go, then throws himself off a bridge when he realizes that it was jean who saved his life. cosette and marius are married, and jean confesses all of his misdeeds to marius. he then dies, with cosette and marius at his side and that's the end. does that help? | |
